Brief Introduction£º
This program tells a story about average Tibetan
people who worship the Holy Mountain. They are
devoted religious enthusiasts and this program
offers a unique insight into their lives. Kailash
mountain is venerated as the original holy mountain
of Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, and Bonism. Claiming
the highest status among Buddhist sites, this
mountain is regularly worshipped by people from
all over the world. 2002 is the Year of the Horse
on the Tibetan calendar, so making a pilgrimage
to this mountain is supposed to bring 12 times
the spiritual benefits of any other year. Pilgrims
visitng the mountain place sutra streamers there
on the 15th of April (on the Tibetan Calendar).
This ritual is widely considered a monumental
event that can't be missed. On that day, nearly
30,000 believers gather at the foot of Kailash
Peak. This program follows a group of worshippers
from the Nagqu Region. They started from the distant
Amdo County, and rode in a group of five trucks
to the remote mountain. One couple among them
brought a little baby who was less than one month
old. The sincerity of these worshippers comes
across in this footage.
Traveling long distances, eating against the wind,
and sleeping in the dew, the magnificent scenes
of hanging the sutra streamers, and the arduous
process of circulating the mountain are all truly
and vividly exhibited in this film.
