Brief Introduction：
This program introduces how China' s most distinguished
style of clothing-the cheongsam-was created, and
how it has changed with the times.
The legend started in 1644, during the Qing Dynasty,
when Emperor Shunzhi made Beijing the capital of
China.
There were many different kinds of cheongsams in
the 1920' s and 1940' s, which can still be seen
in rare black and white films about China. Elders
from Shanghai and Beijing remember the cheongsam
fondly, and see the clothing as representative of
China' s traditional image. This show displays the
many styles of cheongsam from the past and gives
viewers a comprehensive history of the elegant cheongsam
in 30 minutes.
