Brief Introduction£º
In northern China the kite, or "feng zheng"
is also called a "paper eagle." In the
south it's a "sparrow hawk." The Chinese
name "feng-zheng" comes from the ancient
practice of binding a bamboo whistle onto a kite,
because the whistle sounds like a "zheng"
musical instrument in the wind. So the Chinese "feng
zheng" is truly like flying music. Chinese
people fly kites to explore the mysteries of the
wide-open sky.
This program explores the history and the many styles
of Chinese "feng zheng" kites.
