Flour figuring is a most popular
folk handicraft in China with a long history. Back
to the Han Dynasty over two thousand years ago,
it was used for the offerings in the sacrifice.
Later it was used for children¡¯s toy little by little.
These experienced handicraftsman put some dyes and
special antiseptic into the flour and make it colorful
and lasting. The historic literary characters and
some auspicious signs are the main materials for
flour figuring. To some degree, many Chinese people
get the knowledge of literature and history first
from flour figuring when they are still children.
