In the traditional culture of
Sani ethnic group of Yi people, the lion mask is
a special symbol, which expresses Sani people¡¯s
understanding for the life. Making lion masks is
a traditional skill with over a- thousand -year
histories. Lion Dance naturally has come to a grand
ceremony for Sani people.
The story of Lao Bi and his lion masks is to reflect
the traditional culture and life of the Sani ethnic
group of Yi people in Yunnan province, and further
to show the progress and evolution of the nationality.
The characters in the story are the shadows of the
Sani ancestors, and their life is the extension
of the traditional life. The lion mask made by Lao
Bi contains mystery and solemnness, represents the
spirits of the nation.
