Xalhu Monastery
Brief Introduction£º
Xalhu Monastery is located 20 kilometers southeast
of Xigaze. It is a monastery for the Xalhu sect
of Tibetan Buddhism. The architectural style of
Xalhu Monastery is different from other monasteries
because it combines the styles of a Tibetan hall
with a Han ceiling. The Xalhu Monastery is famous
for its elaborate Yuan Dynasty-style murals. The
murals are mainly on corridor walls, with Buddhist
stories as the main content. The murals are separated
into distinct parts with different scenes and ancient
Tibetan scriptures in rectangular frameworks. The
people, animals, and plants in the murals are vivid,
and primitive. The four great treasures of the Xalhu
monastery include: the printing plate of Buddhist
scriptures, the Holy jar, the huge basin-shaped
stone, and the stone tablet with six characters.
