Mount Tai, which is located in the middle of Shandong Province, has been recognized as the king of all Chinese mountains, enjoying fame as "The Head of the Five High Mountains" and "The Elder of the Five Mountains" since ancient times. It is known as the epitome of ancient Chinese landscape. In 1987, Mount Tai was formally added to The World Heritage List by UNESCO.
