The Samye
Monastery
Brief Introduction£º
Samye Monastery-located at the foot of Habort Mountain
on the northern bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River-is
the earliest known Tibetan Buddhist monastery. It
was built in the Tubo Dynasty, during the 7th century
AD. This monastery is sacred because of its magnificent
architecture, long-term history, and special status
within Tibetan Buddhism. Regarded as a shining pearl
of Tibetan Buddhist architecture, it is a place
many Buddhist believers long to visit. This program
documents authentic history, architecture, murals,
and the lives of the lamas. The most precious part
of this program is that it records the mysterious
lives of lamas and believers on Sumeru Mountain
as they practice Buddhism. The spectacular landscapes
around the Ongkor Festival will lead you into a
mysterious and glorious world.
