The Parlkor
Monastery
Brief Introduction£º
The Parlkor Monastery lies at the foot of the Dzong
Hill to the west of Gyangze Town in Xigaze, Tibet.
It is a typical Tibetan Buddhist monastery, constructed
of towers and prayer halls. There are towers in
the halls and halls in the towers. This style is
typical of the monastery buildings of lower Tibet
from the end of 13 AD to the middle of 15 AD. It
is the only fully preserved and the largest of Tibet's
memorial buildings. It was built when the different
sects of Tibetan Buddhism were making rival claims
to Tibet. So, this monastery is unique because the
three Tibetan Buddhist sects, Sagya, Gagyu, and
Gelug are peacefully coexisting below one roof.
At the same time, the different sects of this religion
have all influenced the diverse architectural style
of the Parlkor Monastery.
