Scene of the meeting

(BEIJING, January 8) -- BOCOG President Liu Qi on Tuesday urged all those who are participating in the preparations for the upcoming Olympics to fully devote themselves to the success of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Liu delivers a key-note speech

He made the remarks at a meeting to review the preparatory work from the past six years and to chart it to the opening of the upcoming Olympics in August.

Chen Zhili chairs the meeting

The meeting was chaired by Chen Zhili, state councilor and first vice-president of BOCOG. Other attendants included Liu Peng, minister of the State Administration of Sport and BOCOG executive president; Guo Jinlong, vice-secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, acting mayor of Beijing and BOCOG executive president; and Deng Pufang, president of the China Disabled Persons' Federation and executive president of BOCOG.

With the Olympic Games just 213 days away, Liu Said, all staff members must be confident, selfless and attentive; full of team spirit, passion and vigor; and act as if engaging in real-time Olympic Games.

He said as a result of strong support from the government and people across the nation, remarkable progress has been made in the Olympic preparations in the areas of venue construction; implementation of the Olympic concepts; exploration of the operation mode featuring joint efforts; the participation of all people in the Olympics; close cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC); rapid social-economic development in tandem with the Olympic preparations; and the preparation of precious human resources.

In his New Year address, Liu said, President Hu Jintao requested us to make the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics grand gatherings to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the Chinese and people all over the world. "We sincerely welcome the athletes from all over the world to join the Olympics and Paralympics, and we will offer them splendid Games through our efforts," Liu added.

"We need to work with the highest spirit and apply the highest standards, as the world's attention is on Beijing. We are working in the world spotlight and our actions are being watched through the world's magnifying glasses," he said.

The six years of preparations will soon be examined by the central government and the people across the nation, as well as the IOC and the people all over the world, Liu said, adding: "We are determined to ensure the success of the Olympics and Paralympics."

Full view of the meeting

Taking the floor, the representatives of BOCOG's departments and venue teams expressed their readiness and devotion to the success of the Olympic preparations. Being aware of their responsibilities and the sense of mission, they will solemnly carry out the spirit of the CPC 17th National Congress and the directives of the central government on the Olympic preparations and strive for high-level Olympics with distinguishing features through their passion and hard work.

About 5,000 people, including leading officials and representatives of the staff of BOCOG, officials of the Beijing municipal government and other organizations attended the meeting.
