(BEIJING, December 4) -- To meet the requirements of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, an urban express road network has been built in Beijing over the past five years.
In 2008, all 10 suburban counties and districts are to be linked with the urban area through expressways, according to an official of the Municipal Transportation Commission.
Currently, a 245-km-long urban express road network is composed of six expressways, an equal number of linkage roads, and the city's ring roads.
In the future, a total of 19 radial roads will be linked with the urban road system to support 50 percent of the urban traffic volume. In 2010, the capacity of the city's road network is expected to grow 40 percent to meet the traffic needs of the 3.8 million vehicles envisioned for that time.
Since early 2004, the Beijing Bus Group has streamlined Beijing's bus routes six times, involving a total of 200 routes, and started an additional 100 new routes, facilitating travel for more than 430 communities in the suburbs of Changping, Baiziwang, and other areas.
