(BEIJING, Oct. 11) -- The Main Press Center (MPC) and the Media Village for the reception of the media members covering the Beijing Olympic Games are well under construction and will be delivered in April and May 2008, respectively.
Liu Jingmin, Beijing vice mayor and BOCOG executive vice-president, said on Thursday that the construction of related media facilities and preparations for the media services have been making smooth progress according to the Olympic master plan.
The MPC has been undergoing interior decoration and will be delivered in April 2008. The civil engineering construction work and equipment installation has completed at the International Broadcasting Center (IBC), while the Media Village will be delivered in May 2008.
BOCOG will continue to study and make adjustments to relevant regulations and procedures, especially in areas concerning visa application, satellite TV reception and vehicle rental, in light of the new demand from the foreign and domestic media for a convenient environment and conditions during their coverage of the Olympic Games, Liu revealed.
Liu said, "This year, we have held 9 events, including rowing, Bicycle Motocross (BMX), triathlon and goalball, where we have provided media services in full accordance with the Olympic standards. We have gained a lot and discovered our inadequacies in the process. We will review and amend our Olympic media operation plan to improve every aspect, to iron out every flaw, and to deliver the best media services possible at Games-time."
Over 20,000 accredited media personnel, including 5,600 written and photo journalists, from more than 200 countries and regions are expected at the 2008 Olympic Games.
