(BEIJING, September 18) -- Beijing Mayor Wang Qishan on Monday urged the employees of the city's commercial and service sector to improve their services in the run-up to the 2008 Olympic Games.
He made the remarks at a special meeting to review the implementation of a 3-year action plan to better prepare for the Olympics.
Launched in 2005, the plan covers retailing, catering, hotel and other industries and involves a variety of commercial establishments, with the aim of upgrading hygiene, security, consumer rights protection, market order, product quality, service environment and standards.
In the past two years, Beijing has made remarkable progress in the improvement of services, especially in the guarantee of supply, food security and construction of accessible facilities, according to Wang. However, he said, the employees need to further upgrade their service levels to meet the goal of harmonious and sustainable development.
The meeting called for the installation of related policies and legal systems, optimization of commercial layout and structure, revitalization of Chinese traditional famous trademark enterprises, and improvement of commercial conditions in Beijing's rural areas.
