Rime, or frosted trees and plants, widely known as one of the four natural wonders in China, has made its first appearance this winter in the southern part of Shandong province, China News Service reported on Monday.
The rime, also known as "snow willows" or "tree hangings," is a meteorological phenomenon, in which winter fog condenses on the branches and leaves of trees and plants to form separate, white ice crystals. The time a rime appears, trees, flowers and grass around are just like putting on beautiful silver clothes.
The report said the spectacular scene, which is often seen elsewhere in Jilin province, northeast China, has also created a winter fairyland for local residents in Shangdong.
Guilin mountains and streams, the Yunnan Stone Forest and the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River are known as other China's natural wonders. |
